While I have always loved the potato chip, until I met my husband, I didn’t understand their importance in my life.
There’s rarely a wrong time for chips. And, there are certain meals that simply cannot be eaten without chip accompaniment. This is the
Gospel of Jim. When I come home with them from the store, he exclaims, “Chippies!” with a joy that is beyond compare.
As a kid, coming home from school, I indulged most days in Tastykakes (this is a Philadelphia area delicacy that can now be had in other parts of the country), followed by a handful of potato chips. That salt just finished off the sweetness of the chocolate cupcake perfectly.
These days, I also find that a few chips are nice after breakfast. Just for the crunch factor. I even put them in chocolate chip cookies and coat chicken tenders with them. Chips are versatile!
This doesn’t mean that other snack foods don’t rate with me. Oh, they do! I mean, if it ends in -tos (Fritos, Cheetos, Doritos, etc), then I am down for it. Extra points if there’s orange powder under my nails.
But, chips are different. Like the cheese in the Farmer in the Dell, they stand alone.
Today, feeling a bit anxious, I reached for the Cape Cod Kettle Chips in the perfect Sweet and Spicy Jalapeño flavor.
Mmmmmm…all better! Chips are life. It’s not just a hashtag.
